 Book Review

1) The title of the book is called Horrid Henry Tricks The Tooth Fairy by Francesca Simon.

Horrid Henry have a younger brother, Perfect Peter, whom is a sensible and well mannered boy but Horrid Henry is an opposite of him. He will always bully Perfect Peter. There was once when Horrid Henry was playing with Perfect Peter, Perfect Peter's tooth dropped. He was so enthusiastic and believed that if he placed his tooth under his pillow, the tooth fairy will give him some money. Horrid Henry was so jealous about it as his friends and brother dropped their teeth but he did not. He then tried ways to lose his tooth. He ate jars of sweets and expected them to drop but failed.
At night, when his brother was asleep, he sneaked into his room and snatched the tooth away and put it under his pillow instead. He woke up the next morning but to find out the tooth was missing and heard Perfect Peter saying that the tooth fairy left him a whole pound. He tried to trick the tooth fairy later at night when he got ideas from his friends. He put his toy dinosaur's tooth below his pillow and wrote a polite Thank You note to the tooth fairy so that she would leave more money. He even colored a paper black to fit his tooth so that it looked as if he had drop the tooth. Soon, the next day arrived when he found a pound under his pillow but realized it was a rubber coin. He checked the letter he wrote and found it written as : Nice try, Henry.
His mother then shouted for Henry and asked about the jars of sweets. He tried to blame it on his cat, Fluffy, but his mother did not believe and banned him from eating sweets for a month. His mother then reprimanded him to eat an apple and when he took his first bite, his tooth loosened. He was joyful and took another bite but little did he know, the tooth dropped and he swallowed it.

3) I like the book because it is chuckle some. I like the way how it is expressed by the author.

4) I like the part whereby although Horrid Henry snatched the tooth and made it like it's his but Perfect Peter still got his money from the tooth fairy. I did not expect that the tooth fairy would actually do this but it is fair to Perfect Peter so it is quite interesting.

5) I would not want to change anything in the story because I think that everything in there is just perfect.

6) I would recommend this to people who loves to read book that are humorous.

International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day falls on the 3rd August. It is a day that people celebrates friendship. There are advantages of cultivating good international friendship with other countries because if there are any natural disasters or wars occurring in our country, we would need money to rebuild our houses and many other places so we can ask them to donate funds for us.

We can also have better tradings from different countries like food, fuel and daily necessities. People from other countries who wants to migrate from there to Singapore because of education or work will do so unless the countries are enemies to us.They would avoid coming to Singapore and our population will eventually decrease. Good friendships with other countries will benefit us a lot.

The Story Of The Escalator

"Flick!" I was switched on by Mr Lin, a security guard in Sunshine Mall. He had been switching me "on" and "off" for the past ten years. Do you know I am? I have been in the top news stories every year! I am the one and only who knows how to create trouble for others. I am the escalator! Now you know , I am very well-known. I created a huge disaster last year. That was the biggest I had ever made. This is how mischievous I am. Do you still remember how the disaster happened? If not, follow me into this story.

"Another boring day," I sighed. "People have been stepping me the whole day. Can't I do something on my to-do list?" To-do list! Everyone should be afraid when I have plans on the to-do list. One example is to stop when people are stepping off me. Wow! How creative I am! "Ouch!' I yelled in agony. A boy just hopped onto me and kept jumping. "Ow, ow, ow!" That hurts young man!" I reprimanded him.

Just then, I heard a lady whom I assume is his mother say, "Honey, don't jump on the escalator, you might trip and fall! " The word "trip" pierced through my mind. My evil thoughts kept repeating  this word. Why am I hearing this continuously? Suddenly, my expression changed. I smirked. I became the naughtiest escalator of all. I noticed his shoelaces were untied and were hanging near my gaps. What if I trip him? Muahaha..

Closer... Closer... Closer! Gotcha! I managed to get the shoelaces stuck in. Jump! I persuaded him. Jump! Just when he was about to jump, "Honey, your shoelaces!" reminded his mother. However, it was too late, he jumped. I felt something dripping on me . What is that? Just when I was about to take a look, I feared for the boy's safety. When I looked down, I was totally speechless. He had fallen onto the ground and blood oozed out from him. Everything was cover with his blood. My handrails, the floor, everything. His mother then rushed to him and shouted for help. Just then, Mr Lin was also patrolling the area. He saw the incident and immediately dialed 995.

I was switched off by Mr Lin and my thoughts were back to normal. "What on earth had I done? I just made a little boy fall, I reflected. Someone was running down my steps great hurry. I guessed that it was the little boy's father. " Hold it there sir, hold it! Something spilled on me just now. " I tried to shout out loud but failed. "Whoa!" A scream was being let out. I dare not to look any further. I closed my eyes and tried to shut all the cries of worry.

Dear Loretta

How are you? I have not heard from you for a long time . Hope that you are doing fine. Is your overseas trip fun? I am so envious as I've never gone overseas before, not even once. You wanted to know my plans for the school holidays in June, right?

I came across a brochure which has at least three activities for the June holidays. I have decided to sign up for the " Relax with Kids' Yoga" and " Ang Mo Kio Soccer Club Holiday Programme ". The reason why I pick " Relax with Kids' Yoga"  is because it helps me to relax and rejuvenate my mind, body and spirit. It includes storytelling and music that are led by the instructors. It is conducted either on the 9-11 June or 16-18 June at 9.00am to 12.00pm. It cost $120 per participant. It is a bit costly but I am willing to participate as I have been too stressed out over work.

Another reason why I want to sign up for the soccer club is all because I love sports! It would be fun to learn how it is going to be played. I may have to be careful as soccer is a rough game. It would be on Wednesday evenings, 4th, 11th , 18th and 25th of June.  For girls it would be conducted from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and for the boys it would be at 5.30pm to 6.30pm . It is located at Ang Mo Kio Soccer Stadium ( 1 , Ang Mo Kio Road ) and it is free! There is an age limit required  which  is only from 13 to 16. I am looking forward to them.

I would also want to be engaged in an activity that is not mentioned in the brochure. It is the bicycle training. I do not know how to cycle on it. No matter how hard it is going to be, I would still give it a try! It is just like a Mathematics question. If I do not know how to solve it, I would try and try until I find the solution.

In my opinion, the three activities I mentioned are meaningful and enjoyable activities as I could learn while having fun! It's just like school, we learn different subjects while having fun. I am so elated to see this brochure.

What do you think about my plans? Reply me back as soon as possible. I wish you the best!

Cheers
Wendy

Reflection

English lessons are considered the most important lessons for us because we would need to use it for our daily lives. Mdm Tan and Ms Foo would always share interesting news article like " Teenagers are smoking nowadays" , " Student yelling at teacher" and many more! This is a good way to teach us as we can improve more on speaking proper English, our vocabulary and grammar by reading and understanding them.

For my common , I did not fare so well in English. I did not expect myself to get this marks as my homework are usually graded in my expectation. Most probably I did not revise well enough that is why I fare badly, but this does not mean I could not score better marks for the next test. I will put in good effort into both homework and test. I will read more newspapers, practice more on friendly letter and composition, read notes that are prepared by Mdm Tan and Ms Foo and last but not least to listen and pay the fullest attention in class.

In my opinion, teachers plays an important role for teaching us. They can try to spot common errors, let us have more reading periods, more fun activities held , more helpful notes and lesser homework as we have to attend tuition , cca and enrichment classes. I feel stressful as I do not have the time to complete the homework unless I burn the midnight oil . This would lead me to insufficient sleep.

  Dear Wilson,
How have you been studying in Los Angles? Is it awesome? Do you know that a riot happened in Singapore at Little India recently? It was horrific! I never expected something to happen like this in Singapore. It all took place after a driver whom was driving a private bus which knocked onto an Indian national Sakthivel Kumaravelu, 33, at the junction of Race Course Road and Tekka Land.

I wonder why would the riot start? I don't think this is necessary ! They are here to work not to create a chaos. Tourist would have a bad impression and will be afraid to visit Singapore after they had heard this news. They would think that Singapore is an unsafe place. Some of the crowd even dare to flip the police cars when they arrived! I really pity those policemen in the car. The crowd were absolutely unreasonable. Argh! I am very annoyed by this incident.

Ok, I can't carry on further as I have a tuition to attend to. Hopefully this riot would not happen again to Singapore. Do write me an email when you see this. Feel free to ask me for the link if you want to see the news of the riot.

Personal Recount On A Sad incident that happened during the long weekend

Yay! It is Chinese New Year! My family and I can celebrate together isn't that fun? I have been waiting for this day to come as it only happen once a year. The reason why I like Chinese New Year it is because we can get to eat many kinds of tidbits, ba kwa and receive RED PACKETS!

We went to a restaurant to have our reunion dinner. Little did we know, my grandmother was not feeling well on that day. She had a diarrhea and keeps vomiting. I pity my grandmother so much. We planned to take her to the hospital after we had finished eating our dinner. We waited for a long time outside the doctor's room until we found out that she needed to be warded for some days so that they could check on her. We all nodded with agreement. The nurses then moved her to her ward and we went visiting her.

We all comforted her by saying that she will be discharge as soon as possible. My grandmother is still in her ward up till today. How I wish that she would be discharged and recover in no time.

Title of movie: The Karate Kid

Describe the most exciting/memorable part of the movie. Why do you like it?
Dre Parker, 12, and his mother move from Detroit to Beijing after a job transfer. Dre Parker went to a new school in Beijing and got bullied. During the attack, Mr Han, a rebellious kung fu prodigy came to Dre's aid, revealing he is a kung fu master. Dre then wanted to learn some moves from Mr Han. He agreed . I like the way how Dre put in the effort to learn from Mr Han. It was tough but he still have the patient to learn from Mr Han.
If you could rewrite one part of the movie, which part would it be and why? How would you like to rewrite it?
I couldn't bear to rewrite it as the movie is too good to do so. It is entertaining and reasonable that's why I don't want to rewrite this piece.
List 3 lessons that you have picked up from watching the movie.
Never give up on yourself.
Have faith in yourself.
Practice something that you want to succeed as it will make that something perfect. (Practice makes perfect).

Struggles and How I Overcame Them

I  once experienced a struggle when I was Primary 6. It was the worst struggle I had so far. Why did I struggle this much? Would you like to know? This is how it went...

"Ten more minutes!" the examiner reminded my fellow ex-classmates and I when we were taking our Mathematics Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). "Oh no!" I whispered to myself, " Only ten minutes? How am I supposed to finish my paper on time? I have not completed the remaining four questions in Paper 2!" I continued. Trying to keep my composure, I told myself to have faith and believe in myself that I could finish it on time as our full potential is in our control. We should always have a positive mindset instead of being negative. I always remind myself this phrase whenever I have struggles. I finally completed and was in relief and got into the last part of the entire segment.

Checking the paper. It is also a very important step. As I had only four minutes left, I had to be fast in checking the paper as time passes like a bullet train that goes by but I still have to check it in the correct manner. What do I mean by in the correct manner? It means that I should not only skim through the solutions I wrote earlier but I also have to redo the questions. This is what I call checking as this will eliminate my carelessness. When I was done checking, the examiner immediately said, "Times up everybody, pens down."

I did it! I overcame my struggle by telling myself to have faith. The key point of writing this is to tell everyone out there to have a positive thought and not a negative one. Nothing is impossible if you always have a positive mindset.

         Autobiography

 Dear fellow classmates and teachers,

My name is Ng Wendy from 1E1. I am a girl whose hobby is to play the piano. I started playing it when I was five years old. I became interested in playing the piano when I once passed by a musical instrument shop which sells all kinds of instruments like the piano, guitar, flute, violin and more. There was one instrument that caught my eye the most and that is the piano! I found it beautiful and would probably produce amazing sounds. Hence, I asked my parents if they could bring me into the shop. They agreed. I got so enthusiastic about the piano that I insisted on buying it. I promised them that I would play brilliant pieces of songs when I have learned how to play it. They said that they needed time to discuss. I pleaded them every single day until one day, they told me that they would buy me it. I was definitely very happy.

My favourite colour is white. I think that it looks nice and simple. However, there is one disadvantage about things that are white. If we do not take extra care of it, it will become very dirty. Although it is difficult to take care of things in white, I still love it. My favourite food are mostly Italian like pizzas, spaghetti, beef lasagna and more! I find them delicious and yummy that before I eat them , I will always take pictures. Something interesting about myself is that I do not like to watch cartoons since young. I find them boring in some ways. Whenever I turn to cartoon channels, I would always fell asleep. I would rather watch drama than cartoons as I find dramas interesting and there is a story to it. Furthermore, I know nothing about cartoons.

My good friends are Sioh Kuan, Amanda and Kylie. We care for one another, never gets into trouble and are never fussy. Sometimes, when one of us was feeling down or troubled, we will always help by comforting that person. They are my most closet friends in Primary School. Now, although the four of us are separated as we went different schools, we would still go out and contact one another. I will never forget these good friends. My favourite teacher in Primary School is Mr Lim Joo Ghee, my Chinese teacher. He is a very nice person. Although he punishes everyone when we are uncooperative and mischievous, we would have to write an essay but he would pretend to forget about it. Not only is he a good teacher, he also cares for our well-being. My expectations of Secondary School is that I would achieve better grades in all subjects and to be more independent.

I find that they are very delicious and yummy that before I eat them , I will always take pictures. Something interesting about myself is that I do not like to watch cartoons since young. I find them boring in some ways. Whenever I turn to cartoon channels, I will always fall asleep. I would rather watch drama than cartoons as I find dramas interesting and there is a story to it. Furthermore, I know nothing about cartoons.

My good friends are Sioh Kuan, Amanda and Kylie. We care for one another, never get into trouble and are never fussy. Sometimes when one of us is feeling down or troubled, we will always help by comforting that person. They are my most closet friends in Primary School. Now, although the four of us are separated as we went different schools, we would still go out and contact one another. I will never forget these good friends. My favourite teacher in Primary School is Mr Lim Joo Ghee, my Chinese teacher. He is a very nice person. Although he punishes everyone when we are uncooperative and mischievous, we have to write an essay but he will pretend to forget about it. Not only is he a good teacher, he also cares for our well-being. My expectations of Secondary School is that I would achieve better grades in all subjects and to be more independent.
